Unique Fabricating in LaFayette has shut down. The closing laid off approximately 175 employees without notice. The move happened around mid-day Wednesday. The Georgia Department of Labor says they were not given a heads up about the closure. The Georgia WARN Act requires plants to give a 60-days’ notice. Unique Fabricating is based in Michigan and makes automotive parts. The company has field for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
The Walker County Detention Center reported six felony arrests on Wednesday. 48-year-old Amanda Dawn Tankersley was charged with a felony DUI, possession of meth and other traffic violations. 19-year-old Dylan Michael Silvers faces five charges of first-degree criminal damage to property. 43-year-old Scotty Eugene Davis was charged with a probation violation and possession of meth.
Northwest Georgia is under an exceptional drought. Exceptional drought is the most severe drought category. This marks the first time this area has experienced an exceptional drought since 2016. The wildfire off Highway 157 is the largest wildfire in the state of Georgia. That’s just one of five fires that have burned across Northwest Georgia for multiple days over the last few weeks.
