The Walker County Commission approved a new millage rate for property owners last night.  The new rolled back millage rate was approved by a unanimous vote.  The move marks the third year in a row that the commission has reduced the millage rate with this year’s move being called a “complete rollback”.  You can read the full story of last night’s county commission meeting on our website.
Three felony arrests in Walker County on Wednesday.  Amanda Kay Sjoblom, 37-years-old was arrested and charged with possession of meth.
Unemployment in Northwest Georgia was up in July.  The Georgia Department of Labor says the unemployment rate was 3.9%.  Last July it was 3.1%.  The labor force in the northwest corner of the state was at an all-time high of 449,760.
If you like to bird hunt, some upcoming dates to keep in mind.  Dove hunting and Canadian Goose season open September 7th.  The early portion of Dove hunting is September 7th through October 13th.  Shooting hours for dove season is a half hour before sunrise to sunset.  Goose hunting is September 7th through the 29th.  Daily limit is 5 geese.
