Governor Brian Kemp has proposed a massive tax cut for Georgians. The Office of Planning and Budget estimates that Georgia taxpayers will save $1.1 billion in 2024. The legislation will change HB1437, which provides a step down of 10 basis points in the income tax rax rate starting in 2025 and each taxable year after until the rate reaches 4.99%. The ultimate goal is to completely eliminate the state income tax.
Two people died and one other was injured in a wreck in Whitfield County on Sunday, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP). The crash happened at 4 p.m. on Dawnville Road. There was only one vehicle involved in the wreck, and it was a 2006 Toyota Tundra. According to GSP, 30-year-old Rodolfo Mayorga Rangel was driving the truck, with two passengers. While making a left-hand curve, the GSP said the truck spun counterclockwise and struck a metal utility pole on its passenger side. Authorities said that Rangel was ejected through the front windshield of the truck. First responders took him to a hospital with serious injuries.
The front seat and rear seat passengers died on the scene, the GSP stated. They have not identified the front seat passenger. However, they said the rear seat passenger was 30-year-old Justin Matthew Arnett. Investigators believe speed and alcohol contributed to the crash.

Walker County has some of the least expensive gas in Georgia. According to Triple-A, Catoosa-Dade and Walker Counties have an average price of $2,91 for a gallon of regular unleaded gas. Gas prices across the state are on the rise. The average price of gas is now more than $3 a gallon in Georgia. Nationally gas prices have been holding steady in recent weeks.
