All City of LaFayette offices will be closed today from 1:30pm to 2:30pm. The closure will allow city employees to pay their respects to late Councilman Beacher Garmany. Garmany had served Ward 1 since January of 2014, passed away recently.

A head on collision in front of the LaFayette Wal-Mart yesterday sent one person to the hospital. The accident happened just before noon. The driver of a Hyundai Palisade cross the center turn lane and hit a Dodge Charger head on. The driver of the Charger was injured and had to be transported to Erlanger Hospital for treatment.

Walker County has instituted a six-month moratorium on applications for new liquor and package stores. The Planning Commission says a number of licenses have been awarded to businesses…which have yet to be built. The six month stay on new licenses doesn’t apply to renewals or those already awarded. The matter can be rescinded by commissioners prior to expiration.

Hot temperatures are in the forecast. The record high for today is 100. We’re expected to hit about 99 today. Tomorrow is going to be even hotter with the temp expected to 100. Factor in the heat index and it’s going to feel like it’s 105. Expect the upper 90’s on Friday with a chance of some light showers.
