The city of Chickamauga is one of the six in the state to receive part of an $18.9 million dollar loan. The money helps water systems complete lead service line inventory projects. Lead service line replacements are also a part of the project. All water systems are required to submit a completed lead service line inventory to the EPA by October 16th of this year.

A 25-year-old man from Calhoun has been charged with shooting and killing a teenager over the weekend in Murray County. According to the GBI and Murray County Sheriff’s Office, Anthony Wilkinson has been arrested for the death of Jeffrey Tyler Ray. Murray County deputies responded to gunshots off Sexton Road around 2am Sunday morning. Two people were shot. Ray was rushed to a hospital and died from his injuries. The other person was shot in the face and is expected to recover. Jeffrey Tyler Ray was a recent graduate of Adairsville High School.
Prisons in Georgia are understaffed and overwhelmed by violence and deaths. That’s according to the statistics presented to state lawmakers yesterday. A legislative committee held its second meeting the state’s prisons yesterday. Department of Corrections Commissioner Tyrone Oliver told lawmakers that 981 people have died in Georgia prisons since 2021. 207 have died this year alone. Oliver also said that the prison system lost more than 2,000 employees during the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, the agency has worked to increase pay and improve workplace culture to keep more officers in their job since the pandemic. The vacancy rates have dropped slightly and remain at about 50%.
