Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson says his office has made an arrest in a 24 year old cold case. Wilson along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation will hold a news conference today at 10am to announce more details. The arrests centers around the murder of Julie Ann McDonald. McDonald was found in her home in the summer of 2000. Investigators say she had been restrained and stabbed numerous times. A checkbook was stolen from her home and several bogus checks popped up after the murder. A suspect was picked up for passing the checks but an arrest for the murder was not made. Until now. McDonald was a pharmacist in Chattanooga. She was last seen alive in Fort Oglethorpe.
Monday is Labor Day. All LaFayette City offices will be closed. Garbage collection scheduled for Monday will take place on Tuesday.
AAA Auto will have it’s “Tow to Go” program in place in both Tennessee and Georgia this weekend. The program keeps impaired drivers off the road. If you’ve had too much to drink over the Labor Day weekend, a tow truck will come and transport the owner and the vehicle to a safe location with in a 10-miles radius.
