Several candidates have filed to run for office in Walker County. Angie Teems is seeking the Commission Chairman position currently held by Shannon Whitfield. Melvin Moody is running for County Commission District 3. Jamey Hulsey is running for District 4 on the County Commission. They face incumbents Brian Hart and Robert Stultz. Dennis Willerson is running for School Board Post 1. Don Stultz is running for Sheriff against Steve Wilson who is seeking another term. The primary election is set for May 21st.

The Walker County School Board will hold a planning session tonight. It starts at 6pm at the Advancing Education Center on Osburn Road in Chickamauga. On the agenda for today’s meeting, HVAC and lighting renovation at both Chattanooga and Naomi Elementary Schools.

A bill cleared the State House on Friday that would make cornbread the official bread of Georgia. The house passed the measure 155-3. The bill now moves to the senate for a vote before it goes to Governor Brian Kemp for a signature.

The Region 6-AAA Basketball Tournament got underway yesterday. In girls action, LaFayette defeated Gordon Lee 48-40. The Lady Ramblers advance and will face Ringgold today. Tip-off is set for 3pm. You can hear the entire tournament on Georgia 93-7. One other game from the girls bracket, Breman defeated Ridgeland, 61-52. Breman now faces Adairsville today at 6pm.
In the boys bracket, LFO edged Breman 54-51. Breman finishes their season win, 0-24. LFO advances to face Ringgold at 4:30 today. The Ramblers are in action today after getting the first-round bye.
