Trion City Schools say additional officers were on campus on Wednesday morning because of a school threat made the night before. A Trion Middle School student made a threat towards the school on Tuesday and was detained that night. On Wednesday about 9:00am, law enforcement and school officials were told that a student at Trion High School may have a gun. Trion City Schools were placed on a “hard lock down” while officials investigated the photo being shared and checked all lockers, vehicles, and book bags. No weapon was found. During the lock down, law enforcement officials were securing each hallway in all schools. An officer in the hallway of the Elementary School accidentally discharged his weapon, shooting himself in the foot. The officer was transported to receive medical attention. The gunshot was heard by students and staff in the 2nd and 3rd grade hall, but nobody was in danger. Because of the ongoing investigation, there will be no school for students today. Teachers are still asked to report to work at 9:00am.
The Walker County Board of Commissioners will meet tonight. The meeting happens at 6:30 at the Courthouse Annex III at 201 South Main Street in LaFayette. You can watch it on the county’s Facebook page.
The Walker County Ag Festival is happening on Saturday. The event takes place rain or shine. It’s happening at the Walker County Ag Center in Rock Spring. The fun run starts at 8am. Classes will be held later in the day on bee keeping and flower arranging. Festivities will wrap up between 5pm and 6pm.
45-year-old April Dawn Spencer has been booked into the Walker County jail. Spencer faces seven charges of transaction card fraud and intimidation of the elderly.
Some high school football games have been moved up from tomorrow night to tonight. Only one game in North Georgia has been moved. That’s Southeast Whitfield traveling to Northwest Whitfield. All the games involving Walker County Schools are still on for tomorrow night. Some key games in Northwest Georgia; Gordon Lee hosts Armuchee. LaFayette is at home against Trion. Ridgeland, LFO and Heritage are off. Ringgold is at North Cobb Christian. Dalton is at Cartersville. Dade County travels to Christian Heritage. Coahulla Creek is at home to face Sonoraville.
