The Walker County School District is working to raise money for their Backpack Blessing program. The program provides free meals for students across 11 schools. Superintendent Damon Raines told Local 3 News it is becoming harder to keep up with the growth of the program, now serving hundreds of students. So, in order to raise funds, the county school leader has decided he will combine his love of running with his care for students and run 447 miles between now and December 3rd in order to help raise awareness. He explained that Walker County is 447 square miles…deciding that is he can run every mile and get people to either donate to that effort, or do it themselves and get a sponsor, it would be a huge help to Backpack Blessings for the purchase of food over the year. Superintendent Raines said he will post his progress on Facebook.
