Some severe weather is headed our way beginning later today and into Friday. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City says this storm could be an unprecedented event for north and central parts of Georgia given the strength of the hurricane. Walker County officials are monitoring the situation and they are prepared to open shelters if they are needed.
We are expected to see anywhere from 4 to 8 inches of rain and gusting winds between 40 and 60 miles per hour. If you haven’t done it yet, now is a good time to secure objects outside your house. Trampolines, garbage cans, lawn and patio furniture, grills and other items that could blow away.
Lots of closures for today. Walker County Schools and Chickamauga City Schools are closed today and tomorrow. Georgia Northwestern Technical College will close at 3pm today and will remain closed all day tomorrow. Dalton State is closing at 12:30pm today and will remain closed tomorrow as well. The Walker County Board of Commissioners meeting set for today has been postponed. The Alcoholic Beverage Commission is set for today and has been postponed.
It’s homecoming week at LaFayette High School. The Homecoming Parade has been canceled. Tomorrow night’s football game against Ridgeland has been moved to 1pm on Saturday. All LaFayette Rec League practices for tonight and the Rec league football games set for Saturday have been cancelled. Trion High School was set to play football at Manchester tomorrow night. That game has been moved to 3pm Saturday afternoon.
