Walker County remains under a winter storm warning.  Please be careful if you are traveling today and watch for icy patches on the road.  Especially on the lightly traveled back roads.  City of LaFayette Public Works is advising residents to stay off the roads this morning, unless absolutely necessary. The combination of rain/sleet/freezing temperatures has made for dangerously icy roads.  Lots of closings today.  Walker County Schools are closed.  Chickamauga City Schools are closed.  GNTC, UTC, Dalton State and Chattanooga State have all closed today.  Walker County Transit will be closed.  Walker County Government offices will open at 10:00 a.m.  -Walker County Landfill will open at 10:00 a.m.  The Walker County Civic Center will be open as a warming shelter from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The Civic Center is located on US Hwy 27, Rock Spring.  The City of LaFayette offices will open at 10am this morning.  Today’s trash route will run as scheduled, though at a slower-pace than usual. Residents can expect some delays.  
Chattooga County Public Works has pretreated all county roads in the higher elevations that may see some freezing rain and ice. The Georgia Department of Transportation has advised they have pretreated all Georgia Highways in the county and surrounding areas as well.  Many medical offices have closed today or have plans to open late or close early.  If you have a doctor’s appointment, your best bet would be to call and make sure they are open before you leave home.  
 
Walker County has unveiled its road paving priorities for the new year.  Board of Commissioners Chair Shannon Whitfield says the 2024 goal includes 50-miles of county roads in unincorporated areas.  The county’s paving board will make a list this spring of which roads will be repaved this year,  The projects will go out for bid and the work will begin shortly after that.  
 
The Walker County Detention Center reported three felony arrests on Sunday.  38-year-old Randy Lee Robinson faces possession of firearms or a knife during an attempt to commit a crime.  Criminal Trespass and possession of meth.  59-year-old Stephen Thomas Loach was booked on felony fleeing or attempted to elude and DUI charges.  33-year-old Thomas Blake Allred was charged with possession of meth.  
 
Catoosa-Dade and Walker Counties have the cheapest gas in the state of Georgia.  The average price for regular unleaded gas in the area is $2.75.  State wide gas is $2,95 per gallon.
