A two-vehicle accident in Walker County on Wednesday night claimed the life of one person. The crash happened on Highway 27. One of the vehicles involved in the incident caught fire. An occupant of the vehicle was entrapped and was later pronounced dead at the scene. We’ll have more details on this story as they become available.
The Walker County School Board has a called session set for today. The board will meet at 11:30 this morning at the Central Office. The purpose of the meeting is for personnel recommendations.
Georgia’s September unemployment was 3.6%. That number is unchanged since August. The rate is five-tenths lower than the national unemployment rate. Jobs were up by 6,800 over the month and has reach nearly 5 million total statewide. That’s an all-time high in Georgia.
The State of Georgia has an $11-billion-dollar surplus. The unallocated surplus can be spent however state leaders choose. This is the 4th year in a row that Georgia has ran a surplus. The State Accounting Office said earlier this week that the state collected more than it spent even after officials boosted spending on one-time projects. Georgia spent $37.8 billion in state money in the 2023 budget year that ended June 30th. The state collected $38.2 billion in revenues.
