It was a packed house last night at the Walker County School Board meeting at LaFayette High School.  Several community members, school faculty and students spoke up in favor of Superintendent Damon Raines.  This comes after a special called meeting of the school last week where Raines’ job was believed to be in jeopardy.  The Superintendent told WQCH after the meeting last night that he is at the table and is will to talk with school board members to settle the dispute.  Members of the school board declined requests for comment.  After the public comment portion of the meeting, the board held an executive session behind closed doors.  The meeting was adjourned without the board address the crowd.
Police worked an accident last night with injuries in LaFayette.  The multi-vehicle crash happened at Highway 27 and Highway 136.  Police have yet to release details on the crash.
If you would like to be a part of the Walker County Fire Rescue.  The Department has 20 spots available  in the Volunteer Firefighters Recruit Program.  It starts in January 2025.  You have to be at least 18 years old, have a valid drivers license, a high school diploma or GED and be a Walker County resident.  You can go to WalkerCountyGA.gov/jobs.  The deadline for the applications is December 15th.
The Walker County History Preservation Commission will hold a meeting today.  The meeting is set for 6pm at the LaFayette-Walker County Public Library.  The public is invited to attend.
