The Walker County Board of Commissioners is set to meet tonight. The meeting takes place at 6:30pm at the Courthouse Annex III in LaFayette and will be streamed live on the county’s Facebook page. Among the items on the agenda include an amendment to the Alcoholic Beverage Code. There is also a proposed resolution to repeal a temporary emergency moratorium on accepting applications regarding solar energy systems.
The sewer redirection project continues in Walker County. Wilder Road will be closed to thru traffic from Myers Street to Oakwood Street. The road closure begins today and is expected to last for 3 weeks.

The suspect who was charged with running over an East Ridge Police Officer took a plea deal yesterday. Ta’Bious Wheat entered a guilty plea for one count of Fleeing and Attempting to Elude a Police Officer in connection with a high-speed chase. The chase began July 1st in Marion County, Tennessee, and ended in Whitfield County. During the chase, Wheat hit officer Alan Resendiz at a high rate of speed. Resendiz spent months in rehab and is continuing to learn how to walk again. The chase ended when Georgia State Patrol performed a PIT maneuver in Whitfield County. Wheat reached speeds of 100-115 miles per hour, making unsafe lane changes, and driving in the emergency lane. On August 29, a Whitfield County Grand Jury indicted Wheat on multiple charges, including six counts of fleeing and attempting to elude, theft by receiving stolen property, reckless driving, and driving under the influence.
The Secretary of the Navy Carlose Del Toro announced yesterday that the Navy will build a nuclear attack submarine. The vessel will be known as the USS Atlanta. It’s not immediately clear when the construction will start on the submarine, when it will enter service or how much it may cost.
