Walker County is considering new regulations for animals.  County officials say there are too many unwanted animals in the county.  The animal shelters are overcrowded.  The county is considering a proposal that would force spay/neuter and micro chipping.  Officials say they are not targeting people breeding cattle dogs or beagles for hunting, just irresponsible owners.  They say responsible owner would not be impacted.  Some citizens at last week’s county commission meeting voiced concerns about the proposal saying that it gives the county too much power.  The county commission will have another hearing on the matter November 14th.
Gas prices across Georgia have taken a slight dip.  According to AAA, gas prices across the state were down about a penny a gallon last week.  Dade-Walker and Catoosa Counties have the lowest gas prices in the state.  A gallon of regular unleaded gas is $2.72 locally.  Statewide the average is $2.92.
Four felony arrests in Walker County on Sunday. Among those booked includes; 21-year-old Elle Ann Barry was charged with possession of a schedule II-controlled substance and possession of drug related objects.  42-year-old Gregory James Norwood was charged with theft of services and possession of a schedule II.  42-year-old Jerome Ace Deering was booked on charges of identity fraud, exploitation and intimidation of an elderly person.
Starting Monday, 1.3 million Georgians who bought health care through the Affordable Care Act can begin looking at plans through Georgia Access, the state’s new marketplace exchange.  Open enrollment for Georgia Access begins Friday. For the first time since the ACA launched, Georgians will be blocked from using the federal website for enrolling in health insurance.    Georgia received federal approval in August to open its own marketplace after years of negotiation.  Georgia’s Republican Gov. Brian Kemp said launching a state-based insurance exchange was one of his top priorities after he was elected in 2019.
