Walker County Fire and Rescue was called out to a fire at Stone Creek Elementary School yesterday.  There was a large pile of insulation on fire a couple of feet from the building.  Workers on the roof of the school were able to get the materials, which were on fire, off the roof and prevent any major damage at the school.  Walker County Fire and Rescue along with the Rossville Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire.
The hot weather is here to stay.  The heat index is expected to reach triple digits over the next couple of days.  Between Friday and Monday, high temperatures will reach mid to upper 90’s with the heat index being between 102 and 105.  Remember to do your yard work early in the mornings or later in the day near sundown.  Make sure you are drinking plenty of water.
The first day of school is quickly approaching.  Schools in Walker County starts August 3rd.  Chattooga County schools go back this week.  July 28th is the first day of school there.
The Walker County Board of Education has five meetings planned for the month of August.  The first two  meetings take place August 10th.  A 2023 Tax Levy Hearing is at 5pm followed by a planning session at 6pm.  The meeting takes place at the Advancing Education Center at 935 Osburn Road in Chickamauga.
