This year, Walker County plans to repave an additional 35 miles of roads. The project commenced last week and is being financed using the remaining funds from the 2017 TSPLOST, along with $6,000,000 that was designated in the 2020 SPLOST specifically for enhancing road infrastructure. Upon the successful conclusion of the projects scheduled for 2023, all allocated funds for road improvements will have been utilized.
 

A second public hearing on proposed changes to the county’s alcohol code will be held at 7:00pm tonight during the Board of Commissioner’s meeting.  67% of voters approved granting the county government the authority to issue licenses for retail package sales of distilled spirits during a referendum las November. Before the county can issue licenses, it must first establish rules and regulations for license holders.

Qualifying for the City of LaFayette General Election starts Monday August 21st at 8:30am and ends at 4:30pm on Wednesday August 23rd.  Qualifying will be held at the City of LaFayette Municipal Building in the City Clerk’s Office at 207 South Duke Street.  The General Election is set for November 7th.

Villanow Street will be closed on Saturday from Chattanooga Street to Oak Street.  The closure happens between 9am and 6pm.  The road will be closed to accommodate the Georgia Offroad Wanderers Jeep Jam.  The event features activities for kids, live music and vendors.  It is free to the public.
