Last night the Chickamauga Police Department and the Walker County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area of Crittendon avenue and Lee and Gordon Mill Road. There was a reported shooting. Once on the scene law enforcement officers discovered a deceased subject. According to the Chickamauga Police Department, the evidence at the scene suggests that the subject suffered a medical emergency and not a gunshot wound. No further details have been made available.
Only one felony arrest in Walker County on Wednesday. 39-year-old Everette Lee Hollins was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, willful obstruction, theft by receiving stolen property and being a fugitive from justice.
The Walker County African American Museum and Memorial Park held a ribbon cutting and program yesterday. The event marked the completion of a new mural on the wall facing the parking lot. The museum is located at 309 North Main Street. It’s open from 10-to-6, Wednesday-Saturday, 1-4 on Sunday.
The Recent rains have still left us more than an inch below normal rainfall levels. Lafayette is 1.1 inches below normal in rainfall for the year.

The Safer Hospitals Act, increases the penalties for the assault and battery of healthcare professionals on the job and allows hospitals to create their own police forces, similar to campus police forces for colleges and universities.
