An update on a story from yesterday A police chase that started in Tennessee crossed state lines into Walker County Sunday night, ended in a crash in Dade County. Tennessee deputies were in pursuit of a U-Haul Van. Dade County Deputies responded to Lookout Mountain to intercept the pursuit, and Trenton PD Officers set up spike strips at the base of Lookout Mountain on Highway 136.
While approaching the “cut” at the top of Lookout on the Trenton side, the driver continued straight instead of making the hard right turn (at a high rate of speed), which resulted in him striking the concrete barriers and flipping over into the trees. The vehicle came to rest on its top.
Dade County, Grundy County, and Marion County Deputies found the driver entrapped inside the vehicle. After some creativity by Deputies, they were able to extricate the subject from the heavily damaged vehicle and turn him over to EMS.
The driver has now been identified as Barry May of Waukegan, Illinois. May was transported to the hospital by EMS with non life-threatening injuries.
He had an active warrant out of Illinois, and charges related to this chase are pending.
No deputies or bystanders were injured, and no patrol vehicles were damaged during this pursuit.
