Georgia Labor Commissioner reported last week that nonfarm employment increased 0.1 percent, in February 2023. Employment expanded in transportation, and utilities, government, and construction. However, the professional and business services, information, and manufacturing sectors lost jobs over the month. Over the year, employment in Georgia is up 2.8 percent. Georgia’s unemployment rate in February 2023 is 3.1 percent. Unemployment in Georgia remains well below the national unemployment rate.

Walker County reports 31,750 in the work force, with 30,737 currently working, leaving 1,013 unemployed. Our unemployment sits at 3.2%, dropping .3%.

Frank Levi Knight a 57 year old male was arrested Saturday and booked into the Walker County Detention Center. Knight faces felony charges. Including two counts of aggravated assault with a gun and possession of a fire arm during commission of a crime.

A Brush fire yesterday on David Hill Road in Flintstone. Walker County Fire and Rescue station 2 and 7 fought to put out the blaze with help from the Georgia Forestry Commission.

Two motorcyclists are hospitalized after a crash in Murray County.

According to Nathan Figueroa with the Murray County Fire Department, the crash happened Sunday afternoon on the bridge before Carters Lake.

According to a preliminary report, two people with two motorcycles were involved in the crash

Both motorcyclists were taken to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton.

They are listed in stable condition for further evaluation and care according to Figueroa.

The Sheriff’s office will hand the investigation over to Georgia State Patrol.
