The Walker County Detention Center booked three males on felony offenses Wednesday.  54-year-old Jerry Anthony Bolin was booked on charges ranging from failure to register as a sex offender, willful obstruction, giving false information to law enforcement along with loitering and prowling.  To see the complete arrest report visit our website, Discover Walker.com
On Tuesday of this week, 29-year-old Brandon Lee Womack turned himself in to the Chattooga County Sheriffs Department.  Womack faces charges of felony murder, 1st degree vehicular homicide, false imprisonment, DUI and other traffic offenses.  The charges stem from an investigation into a wreck that happened in Chattooga County in January of this year.  An SUV driven by Womack left the road, struck a tree and caught fire.  Womack was pulled to safety but a 31-year-old woman, Samantha Denise Smith was trapped inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.  Womack is currently being held without bond by Chattooga County authorities.
Resurfacing work continues on West Cove Road and Dougherty Gap Road.  The work is expected to be completed today.
State broadband needs are being evaluated by the Georgia Technology Authority. Walker County residents may receive calls through the residential phone survey to assess the what areas need the most assistance. Areas of focus include broadband access and adoption, devices and technical support, digital skills and literacy, and data privacy and cyber security So, if you receive a call from “Georgia Technology Authority”, the call is not spam and residents are encouraged to participate in the conversation. This survey will take place through the end of May
The Lafayette High School softball schedule for this fall has been released.  A scrimmage game against Trion kicks off competition on August 3rd.  The regular season begins at home against Sonoraville Tuesday August 8th.
