The Walker County Detention Center reported five felony arrests on Monday. 36-year-old Cordaro Darnell Myricks and 39-year-old Michael Don Henderson were booked on possession of meth with intent to distribute and possession of a schedule II. 51-year-old Johnny Joseph Dearing faces possession of meth with the intent to distribute, possession of a schedule II and trafficking meth charges. Also, 52-year-old Michael Christopher Nunley was also charged with possession of meth.
More details are out on the arrest of a 75-year-old Walker County man. Dennis Laman faces 200 counts of exploitation and intimidation of disabled adults, 199 counts of sexual battery and one count of aggravated sexual battery. The victim is a 30-year-old woman in Chickamauga with cerebral palsy who says she was touched inappropriately for a number of years.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for nearly 100,000 Kia Sportage SUV’s for brake issues. The problem could extend the distance needed to stop and increase the chances of a crash. Dealers will inspect and replace faulty brakes free of charge. Owners will receive notification letters that are supposed to be mailed on July 21st.
Check fraud is becoming a bigger problem. 680,000 cases of check fraud were reported last year. The US Postal Service is warning people to avoid mailing checks. When you have a check to mail, take it inside the post office and drop it in a secure mail drop. Criminals are getting the checks by fishing them out of postal boxes.
