A community meeting is set for June 19th. The public is invited to learn more about the Chickamauga Battlefield Connector Trail Project. The meeting will be held at 5:30 on the 19th at the Advancing Education Center on Osburn Road in Chickamauga. The current plans call for two existing trails to connect downtown Chickamauga with the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park.
Georgia House and Senate leaders signed an agreement last week for the states $32.5 billion dollar budget that begins July 1. The new budget covers full tuition for everyone receiving a Hope Scholarship. it also provides a $2,000 raise for all state employees and public school teachers. Some law enforcement officers will get a $6,000 pay boost.
The State of Georgia lost more than 90% of this years crop of peaches after an abnormally warm weather this winter and last season freeze. Georgia is the 3rd largest producer of peaches in the country. Only South Carolina and California produce more.
A new learning space is coming to Ridgeland High School. The Georgia Department of Community Affairs awarded a $100,000 grant for the construction of an agricultural pavilion. School leaders plan on using the agricultural pavilion for livestock, forestry and horticultural exhibits as well as labs, industry demonstrations and year around meeting space for FFA and other civic organizations.
