West Warren Road behind the LaFayette Walmart will be closed today and tomorrow.  The closure will happen from 8am to 4pm.  Crews are doing utility work on a new subdivision off West Warren Road.  Motorist are advised to take an alternate route.
Monday was a busy day at the Walker County Detention Center.  Nine felony arrests were reported.  21-year-old Alyana Blaine Chesser was booked on possession of meth charges.  36-year-old Jacob Shannon Ray was arrested and charged with willful objection, trafficking drugs and five counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement.  22-year-old Megan Brianna Long also faces felony charges of trafficking drugs.  58-year-old Terry Lee Duckett is charged with possession of meth, possession of schedule II with intent to distribute.
The Walker County Board of Commissioners meet tomorrow night.  The meeting takes place at 7pm at Courthouse Annex III at 201 South Main Street.  You can watch the meeting on the county’s Facebook page.  No new items are listed on the meeting agenda.
Two Georgia universities have made the list of the top 20 public universities in the country.  Both Georgia and Georgia Tech made US News and World Reports 2023 rankings of the best public universities.  Georgia is one of only four states to have more than one institution in the top 20.  As if the Dawgs and Jackets didn’t have a big enough rivalry, Georgia Tech is ranked 15th.  Georgia is ranked 16th.
