Carolyn Hughes McElhaney age 85, of Chickamauga, Georgia went home to be with The Lord Friday – October 4, 2024. She was born in Rossville, Georgia on January 8, 1939 to the late Jack and Verda Hughes. She was a lifelong resident of Walker County and a graduate of Rossville High School – Class of 1956. She worked in Banking for the Bank of Chickamauga and retired from Wells Fargo Bank in Rossville, Georgia. Carolyn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who supported her granddaughters at all of their sporting events. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Chickamauga, serving faithfully alongside her husband as the organist before their retirement in the ministry. She loved to shop and was an avid Georgia Bulldawgs fan. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister: Joyce Bacon and brother: Garland Hughes. She is survived by her husband of sixty-six years: Reverend Charles William McElhaney, Bill (Matt Williams) McElhaney, Kevin (Shannon) McElhaney all of Chickamauga, GA, granddaughters: Tori McElhaney, Katherine Grace McElhaney and fiancé: Jackson Moore, Charlsie McElhaney, several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Tuesday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am – Tuesday – October 8, 2024 in the chapel with Pastors: Dean Spivey and Keith McCloud officiating. Burial will follow in Chickamauga Cemetery.
