April 30, 1938 - November 1, 2024
Deane Bates, 86, of LaFayette, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 1, 2024. She was born in Jackson County, Alabama, to the late Frank Shelton and Hazel Cobb. Deane had lived in the Northwest Georgia area for over sixty years and had been a teacher at Head Start. Deane was a great cook. She was famous for her spectacular chocolate peanut butter fudge and meatloaf. She always enjoyed cooking for her family and having big family get-togethers that included a lot of fun, laughs, and picking on each other. Deane loved to travel and was an avid reader. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles in the Sunday paper, making quilts, cross-stitching, and riding on the back of a motorcycle with her son, Steve. Deane had a great sense of humor and was always ready for a good laugh. Her family dearly loved Deane and she will be greatly missed.
Deane is preceded in death by her loving husband, J. W. Bates; parents, Frank Shelton and Hazel Cobb; brother, Chester Shelton; sister, Minnie Royal; granddaughter, Samantha Weber; and grandson, Aaron Keith Bates.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Pamela Bates (Darryll) Webb of LaFayette, Georgia, Angela Bates (Scott) Weber of LaFayette, Georgia, Steve (Lynn) Bates of Summerville, Georgia, and Keith Bates of Rock Spring, Georgia; sisters Julie Parton and LaMerle McVay; and several much-loved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
