Gwendolyn Payne Thompson, age 86, of LaFayette, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
She was born on August 26, 1938, to the late Herbert and Vivieenn Payne.
Gwendolyn was an active member of the Gordon Lake Wesleyan church for many years and Gospel Light.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Billy Eugene Thompson; daughters, Deborah Harris and Lisa Wallin; grandson, Billy Harris; and great-great grandson, Jacoby Michael Mincey.
Gwendolyn is survived by daughters, Tena (Ronnie) Harris of LaFayette, Renee (James) Sumner of Rock Spring; sister, Johnnie Lewis of Summerville; grandsons, Dennis and Jeremy Harris, Matthew Dennison and T.J. (Brandie) Wallin; granddaughter, Amanda (John) Samples; great grandchildren, Mason and Clayton Harris, Kelsie (Brandon) Morgan, Jaylee and Callie Samples, Aubrey Smith, Beau Wallin, and Titus Dennison; great-great grandchildren, Gunner and Liam Morgan; and several special cousins and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Pastor Tom Long officiating.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 p.m. to the service hour at the funeral home.
Interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 13, at LaFayette Memory Gardens. Pastor Ashely Mew will officiate.
Pallbearers are Tim Wilson, Mike Penson, Michael Fry, John McAllister, John Samples, Matthew Dennison, and T.J. Wallin.
Honorary pallbearers are Dennis Harris, Jeremy Harris, and Beau Wallin.
Arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home, LaFayette.
