Hazel Brinkley Gordy

Hazel A. Cordell Brinkley Gordy, age 96, of Chickamauga, Georgia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 5, 2026. Hazel was a faithful member of First Bible Methodist Church and later attended Christian Home Baptist Church. As a gifted pianist, she shared her talent by playing and filling in for services at local churches throughout her younger years. Hazel dedicated 34 years of service to the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), where she was known for her exceptional skill and professionalism. Remarkably, she held the company record as the fastest typist, reaching an impressive speed of 120 words per minute. Her strong work ethic, servant's heart, and musical gifts left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her father; Corbert Jessie Cordell; mother, Ida Schaich Cordell Qualls; husbands, L.H. Brinkley and Billy F. Gordy; sisters, Fannie Louise Cordell and Dorris Oxford; brothers, Richard Cordell and Fay Jessie Cordell; granddaughter, Wendy Humphries; great-granddaughters, Sierra Evans and Gracelynn Harper Gray.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters; Lisa (James) Brinkley Smith and Cathy (Pat) Hammack; grandchildren, Sarah (Josh) Sanchez, Hannah (Luke) Gray, Mikayla (Jacob) Oliphant, Jessica Smith; five great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Thursday June 11, 2026 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel of Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Will O’Neal officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Gardens South.
