November 17, 1934 - March 10, 2026
John C. Carroll, 91, of East Ridge, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church. He was born in Augusta, Georgia on November 17, 1934 to the late Roy Lee and Mary Cooper Carroll. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Elizabeth Anderson Carroll; brothers, Roy Lee Carroll, Jr., and Bobby J. Carroll; and son-in-law, Neil Wiser. He is survived by his daughter Nancy Wiser; daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Tony Little; and three grandchildren, Thomas (Justina) Wiser, Michelle (Steven) Burton, and Michael (Kathryn) Little; and six great grandchildren, Maci, Lexi, and Alli Wiser and Angela, Robby and Anthony Burton, and several nieces and nephews.
From his first job at age 7 shining shoes shortly after the depression to his retirement in 1999 as Director of Plant Services for Alexian Village of Tennessee, he worked hard and put his heart into everything he did.
While his accomplishments in the secular workforce were special to him, nothing compares to the blessings God allowed in the ministry. He pastored churches in Georgia and Tennessee and saw many souls saved and many lives changed. His final pastorate was at People’s Baptist Church in Rossville, GA.
Of the many ways he served others in his life, one that was particularly special to him was helping institute a $5,000 annual college scholarship to a high school student associated with Alexian Village of Tennessee. This project was important to him because he never had the opportunity to attend college. His formal education ended after 5th grade.
While it was his heart’s desire to see every young person receive as much education as possible, it was even more his heart’s desire to see every young person come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and allow Him to use their lives.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” II Timothy 4:7-8
The family will receive friends from 5 - 6 PM with a service to follow at 6 PM on Friday, March 13, 2026 at Edgewood Baptist Church, 3604 Ringgold Road, East Ridge with Pastor Dale Kidd, Brother Stephen Kellogg, and Bill Hullander officiating. Private interment will be held at Lakewood Memory Gardens South. No flowers, please. Memorial donations can be made to Baptist International Missions, Inc., 8614 Harrison Bay Rd, Harrison, TN 37341.
