John “Johnny” L. Bishop, Sr.

John “Johnny” L. Bishop, Sr., affectionately known as “Puh,” passed away at his home on Monday, June 29, 2026, at the age of 79.
Born in Jackson County, Alabama, Puh moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 1963, where he built a life defined by dedication to his family, career, and community. He retired from Gilman Paint/Jones Blair after 32 years of loyal service, earning the respect of colleagues through his strong work ethic and commitment.
Puh was a familiar and beloved presence in the East Lake community. He devoted countless hours to mentoring youth as a softball coach at the community center and volunteered with the Boy Scout Troop, helping to shape the lives of many young people. He was also a dedicated supporter of The Vet Center in East Brainerd, reflecting his deep appreciation for those who served. An avid golfer, Puh enjoyed many years playing on his company team and treasured the camaraderie the game brought.
Above all, Puh was a devoted husband, father, and family man. He is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Carole (Lowe) Bishop; his daughter, Angela (Steven) Duffey; his sons, John Bishop, Jr., and Chris (Kelley) Bishop; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Shiloh. His legacy of love, kindness, and service will live on through each of them.
Puh will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his generous spirit, and the lasting impact he made on his community. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, 555 West Cloud Springs Road, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on Saturday, July 11, 2026 from 2 p.m. till 4 p.m.
