Lazaro "Fello" Machado, age 89, resident of Ringgold, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
Mr. Machado, son of the late Santiago Machado and Eloina Rolo, was born December 17, 1936, in Havana, Cuba. The son of a farmer, he worked for years before becoming the owner of an animal feed business that serviced other farmers. He was proud to have been involved with the counter-revolutionary movement in Cuba before leaving for the United States in 1967. After arriving in the United States, he worked in different career paths until he became the owner and operator of American Gas Service Station in Miami, Florida. He later owned Machado Fence in Miami until he retired in 2016. He was a member of the Bradmore Spanish Seventh-day Adventist Church in Miami, where he served as a deacon.
Mr. Machado always enjoyed gardening and spending time with his pets (both cats and dogs), and in retirement he treasured spending lots of quality time with his grandchildren, who renamed him "Fello Bello." He was an avid Florida Marlins baseball fan and a lifelong supporter of the Republican Party. Through determination, he taught himself to play various musical instruments, including the clarinet, saxophone, and piano. Mr. Machado enjoyed fishing, taking trips to the beach with family and friends, and grilling for his family. The family remembers him as a humble man who took the greatest pride in making sure his family was taken care of.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Euildo Machado; a daughter-in-law, Amarilys Machado; and a sister-in-law, Marta Machado.
He is survived by two sons, Rafael Machado and Santiago (Seydel) Machado; one sister, Oneida "Nella" Machado; one brother, Calixto Machado; two grandchildren, Eleni Martinez and Kristian R. Machado; three great-grandchildren, Francis R. Martinez, Elyse I. Martinez, and Eli A. Martinez; and many other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at Tyner Cemetery on June 26, 2026, 2 pm.
