Ovlean Marsella Shoemake Swanson, 93 was born March 22, 1931 at Erlanger Hospital to Raymond Burl Shoemake and Ovlean Dilbeck Shoemake. Marsella went to her Heavenly home on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Her parents lived in Georgia and raised her and her three brothers, R.B., Emmett, and Avery. Marcella grew up and enjoyed going to church and serving God. She worked all of her life in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Swanson; her parents, Raymond and Ovlean Shoemake; her brothers, R.B., Emmett, and Avery Shoemake; and her stepchildren, Darlene Ashley, Bobby Hayes, and Janice Swanson.
She is survived by her two sons, Raymond (Sharon) Stapp of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and Robert (Carlene) Barnes of Ringgold, Georgia; stepchildren, Wayne (Cathy) Swanson, David Swanson, Diane (Harold) Carlton, Ann (Miret) Smith; sister-in-law, Frieda Shoemake, and lots of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, in the funeral home chapel. The burial will be held at Lafayette Memory Gardens in Lafayette, Georgia, immediately after the service. Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Homes - Wallis-Stewart Chapel Ringgold, Georgia.
