Mary White Farmer of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, age 96, passed away on May 22, 2026.
Mrs. Farmer, daughter of the late William Marvin White and Ida Boyd White, was born February 8,1930 in Calhoun, Georgia. Mary grew up on a farm. She began working with her sister Ruth at White Wave Beauty Shop in Rossville. Later, she became a nurse and worked faithfully for over 40 years before she retired from St. Barnabas Nursing Facility. Throughout Mary’s life, she enjoyed bowling; boating; taking trips with her husband to Florida; and going back to where she grew up visiting relatives on their farms. While at home, many would find her reading or cooking (particularly desserts). The family remembers her as a lady who loved her family immensely, particularly her husband, children, grandchildren, and pets.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death her husband, John Farmer; five sisters, Ruth Farmer, Nellie Wilson, Pearl Burnette, Edna Crowe, and Ina McEwen; and three brothers, John White, Boyd White, and Phillip White.
Mary is survived by two daughters, Renee (Dan) O’Connor and Adrienne Farmer and Waymond Hood; five grandchildren, Jamie (Clay) Patterson, Josh (Brandi) Hood, Joseph (Megan) Hood, Danielle O’Connor (Alex) Goebel, and Patrick (Kristen) O’Connor; eight great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ashlyn, Johnna, Josie, Conrad, Landon, Colin, and Nolan; numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Celebration of life will be held at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, 555 West Cloud Springs Road, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on Sunday, June 7, 2026 from 2-4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Humane Educational Society, 4155 Randolph Circle, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37406
