Rachel Turner Sumrall

We mournfully announce the passing of Rachel Turner Sumrall, who left this world on January 1st of natural causes.

Rachel was born to Catherine and Obie Turner in Dekalb, Mississippi on January 29th, 1952 and grew up in Prentiss, Mississippi. Growing up, she was an active member of the local 4-H club and competed at the state level for several years. She played basketball in high school and at Hinds Junior College during her time there.

On August 1st 1976 she married the love of her life, Greg Sumrall, and they eventually chose to raise their family in LaFayette, Georgia. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she enjoyed being a part of the Quilting Ministry, the Handbell Choir and the Women’s Circle 2. She loved taking photos of their trips and stopping for picnics in the mountains. Music was a passion of hers since childhood, a love she gained from her father and passed down to her children.

Her greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Greg Sumrall, her daughter, Shelley (Derek) Donaldson of Macon, GA and son, Taylor (Morgan) Sumrall of Calhoun, GA, and her grandsons, Reegan Donaldson and Turner Sumrall.
