Randall Lee Sanders

Randy Randall Lee Sanders, of Rossville, GA, was born March 27, 1958. He lived life on his own terms, and anyone who knew him would agree that there was really no other way he was going to do it.

He loved working with his hands, figuring out how things worked, and finding a way to fix what was broken. Whether he was working on a vehicle, talking about racing, or taking on another project, Randy was happiest when he was busy doing something with his hands.

He was not a perfect man, and he wouldn’t have wanted anyone pretending that he was. He could be difficult, hard-headed, and set in his ways. Thankfully, he leaves behind pieces of himself everywhere: in the landscape he shaped, the koi ponds he built, the vehicles he repaired, the animals he cared for, and, most importantly, in the people who knew and loved him.

We will miss his voice, his stories, his laughter, his advice, his arguments, his projects, and even the things about him that used to drive us absolutely crazy. Because when you love someone, even their most aggravating qualities become part of the things you miss the most.

He was a difficult man sometimes. He was a funny man often. He was a talented man always. And he was a loved man, more deeply than he probably ever realized.

Give Rocky a hug for us. Tell Dale we’re still rooting for him. And if there’s a garage and a racetrack up there, we’re pretty sure you’ll find your way to both.

Randy was preceded in death by his son, Rocky Sanders; his first wife, Joyce Morgan; his mother, Ethelene Verhine; his father, Ernest Sanders; his brother, Michael Sanders; his lifelong friend, Dean Gayton; and his favorite dog, Gator.

Randy was a husband. His wife of 16 years, Tabitha Reed Sanders, shared a life with him that was built over years of shared memories, hard work, laughter, challenges, and a love that grew through it all. He may have been strong-willed and set in his ways, but Tab understood the heart behind the man. She knew his strengths, his imperfections, his tender side, and the love he carried.

Randy was a father. He is survived by his sons, Bobby Sanders, and Jesse (Hayley) McClure, Jr.; and his daughters, Carrie (David) Sneed, and Shannon (Shane) Benton. Randy was a brother. He is survived by his sister, Ernestine (Dan) Briz. Randy was a grandfather. He is survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Randy was an uncle. He is survived by three nieces. They will remember many sides of him: the man who could make them laugh, the one who taught them things, and the man whose love was often shown through what he did rather than what he said.
