Roy David Dortch

Roy David Dortch, age 70, of Chickamauga, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
Born in LaFayette, Georgia, Roy was the son of the late J.T. Dortch and Betty Jo Tindle Parsley. A lifelong resident of Chickamauga, Roy loved his hometown and its people. He attended the former Fellowship Baptist Church and spent his life becoming a familiar and beloved presence throughout the community.
Roy never met a stranger. Whether walking the streets, riding his bicycle through town, working at Circle K, or stopping to visit, with anyone he encountered, he brought joy to countless lives. He had a special love for simple treasures- like a Western VHS tape, an ice-cold Coca-Cola, a piece of candy, a hot dog, or the opportunity to help run the scoreboard at the local ballfields. Roy's genuine kindness, friendly conversations and unmistakable presence made him a cherished fixture in Chickamauga. He loved the people of his hometown… and they loved him in return. His absence will be deeply felt, but his memory will forever remain a part of the community he called home.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his brother, Harold James Dortch; his half-brother, Timothy Dortch; and his great-aunt and great-uncle, Treva Reed and J.D. Reed.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sister, Ann (Jackie) Shepherd; his aunt and uncle, Sue Tindle and Ray (Wanda) Tindle; his cousins, Kenny Wimpy, Marquita Gardner, Doris Greene, Steve Dodson, Keri Wimpy, and Jamie Wimpy; as well as numerous other cousins throughout Middle Tennessee and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing Roy.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, in the Wilson Funeral Home–J. Avery Bryan Chapel with Pastor David O'Neal officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday and prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
