October 21, 2024
Sharon Jean Thomas, 79, went home to be with her Lord on October 21, 2024. She died peacefully with her loving brother and sister-in-law at her side.
Sharon was born and raised in Hinkle on Lookout Mountain. She graduated from Rossville High School in 1963. She went on to attend business school at Edmondson College and received a degree in business. From there, she started working at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, where she spent her entire 30-year career, retiring in 2001. She loved the community and her job there, creating lifelong friendships.
Sharon married Larry Thomas of Chickamauga in 1972. They were married 51 years before his passing in 2023; they lived in Chickamauga. She faithfully attended Pilgrim Way Baptist Church for 40 years. She enjoyed quilting and cooking. Her specialty was pickles and deviled eggs. After Larry’s passing, Sharon returned to Lookout Mountain and settled at Thrive at Brow Wood. There, she made wonderful new friends and enjoyed the entire community that Thrive had to offer, including the food, activities and sitting on the porch with her friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Ora Dutton, and her husband, Larry Thomas. She is survived by her brother and sister-n-law, Don and Judy Dutton, nephew Jon Dutton (Ginger), and niece Mary Dutton Collier (Ethan). Her great nephews are Jack Dutton, Joe Dutton, Cooper Dutton and Caleb Collier, and her sole niece, Julia Collier.
The family will receive friends Thursday, October 24, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home. A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Samaritan’s Purse in response to hurricane relief (samaritanspurse.org).
The family wishes to thank the staff and community at Thrive at Brow Wood for the care and love they gave Sharon in her final year. Sharon led a faithful and steadfast life, and she will be missed dearly.
