Shirley Mae McDaniel
Shirley Mae McDaniel, age 80, resident of Rossville, Georgia, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025 at CHI Memorial Hospital, Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Mrs. McDaniel, daughter of the late Almer Newton Godwin and Dimple Mae Smith Godwin, was born June 21, 1944, in Flat Rock, Alabama. She attended Woodlawn Baptist Church and retired from Signal Knitting Mill where she faithfully worked for 25 years. Following her time at Signal Knitting Mill, Shirley dedicated approximately 17 years to her role as a cashier at Walmart Supercenter in Ft. Oglethorpe.Mrs. McDaniel had a variety of interests that brought her joy. She loved gardening, cooking, putting puzzles together, and quilting. Additionally, she enjoyed watching old Western classics like *Bonanza* and following soap operas. She loved angels and decorated her home with many. She cherished her daily phone conversations with her sisters. When she ventured outside, she enjoyed spending time on the mountain, watching hummingbirds, tending her garden, and attending ball games with her children and grandchildren. Above all, she was affectionately known as “Mama Mac” to everyone. According to Shirley, her best and greatest achievement was being a mom and grandma. Her family remembers her as a woman who embodied patience, kindness, and humility, always wearing a joyful smile that touched the hearts of those around her.Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orpheus Attison “O.A.” McDaniel; sister, Brenda Holmes; and step-daughter, Maria Boucher.

Mrs. McDaniel is survived by one daughter, Sherry(Dana) Swanson; four sons, O.A. McDaniel, Jr., Rick McDaniel, James McDaniel, and Gene (Preble) McDaniel; two sisters, Joyce (Emmery) Brown and Kathy West; two brothers, Jimmy (Judy) Godwin and Jerry (Susan) Godwin; ten grandchildren, Crystin, Ronnie (Kana), Heidi, Zane, Nathan, Kailey, Bryant, Kat, Tylor (Jasmine) Swanson, and Chassey (Scott) Gordon; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
