Bro. Terry Payne, 65, of Chickamauga, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. He was born in Dalton, Georgia, to the late James and Helen Payne. Bro. Terry had lived all his life in the Northwest Georgia area, and he was a Deacon and actively involved in serving the Lord together with his wonderful church family at Memorial Baptist Rossville. Bro. Terry loved his family. Mrs. Beverly has been the love of his life for forty-six years. What a beautiful love story! Bro. Terry loved his son Scott, his daughter-in-law Stephannie, and his grandchildren. He was so proud of Scott and the godly man he has become. He was proud of Stephannie and her many talents and how she and Scott had reared four incredible children. Bro. Terry’s grandchildren were his pride and joy. He would light up when he would tell how his grandsons, Brennan, Sawyer, and Ty, would excel in sports and as he watched them grow into incredible Christian young men. Adalee is his only granddaughter. He would get so excited to tell you about her latest cheer activities, how proud he was of her, and what a beautiful, godly young lady she was becoming. Bro. Terry was a true man of God. He loved the Lord with all his heart and served the Lord faithfully. Bro. Terry loved his church family and sacrificially served them as a faithful biblical deacon. He loved and served selflessly. You could always see Jesus in Bro. Terry. If you knew Bro. Terry, you knew you had a friend. He loved people and had many friends. Through his Christ-like demeanor, he would love you, make you feel special, and even give you help and comfort when you need it the most. Bro. Terry loved having fun and enjoyed a good round of golf and fishing. To best describe Bro. Terry, he was a blood-bought, born-again child of God who loved Jesus, his wife, family, and friends and lived for Jesus every day of his life. Bro. Terry finished well!
Bro. Terry is preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas and Helen Martha Payne, and siblings, Roger Lynn Payne, Clyde Ray Payne, Maxine Latimer, Delphine Dockery, and Wanda Sue Key.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of forty-six years, Beverly Payne; son, Joel Scott (Stephannie) Corn of Ringgold, Georgia; brother, Danny (Pam) Payne of Naomi, Georgia; sister, Trish (Tim) Gilbreath of Trion, Georgia; brother-in-law, Stanley Strickland of Chickamauga, Georgia; and grandchildren, Brennan, Sawyer, Ty, and Adalee Corn all of Ringgold, Georgia; and many much-loved nieces and nephews.
The family has arranged for a time to remember and honor Bro. Terry. Friends and family are invited to Memorial Baptist Rossville, 905 Hogan Road, Rossville, Georgia, on Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. for visitation. The Celebration of Life Service will start at 5 p.m., with Pastor Tim Owens officiating. The family appreciates your prayers and support during this difficult time.
