Wayne Day

Wayne Day, age 91, of LaFayette, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026.

He honorably served his country as a veteran of the United States Army and later dedicated many years as a mail carrier before his retirement, becoming a familiar and friendly presence in the community. A faithful member of the LaFayette Church of Christ, his life reflected quiet devotion and steady faith. Wayne had a deep love for the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter, often finding his happiest moments surrounded by nature.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Manda Louise Day; grandson, Brandon Day; parents, Paul and Mattie Day; and life-long fishing and hunting friend, JD Denton.

He is survived by his daughters, Karen Mason and Kathy Day; son, Brian (Jill) Day; grandchildren, Mattie Day, Marlie Day, Mandi Oakes (Joseph Oliver), and Tyson (Beka) McWhorter; great grandchildren, Joseph Oliver and Josie McWhorter; sisters, Sue Pickle and Paula (Bill) Cooper; brother, Jerry (Mary) Day; several nieces and nephews; and long-time fishing and hunting friend, Lee Parker.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 9, in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Minister Reid Perry and Elder Don Shields officiating.

Interment will take place at Trinity Cemetery.

A visitation will take place Thursday from 2 p.m. to the hour of service at the funeral home.
