William Earl Matheny, 87, of Rossville, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024. He was born in Mannington, West Virginia, to the late Everett Earl and Gussie Loraine Matheny. In 1954, Bill joined the United States Army and served our country with honor and distinction. After Bill’s stint in the Army, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he met and married the love of his life, Diane. They were married for fifty-five years. Bill was a Shriner and a musician. He expertly played bass guitar and even played with Buck Owens. He enjoyed singing and could sing and harmonize any vocal part. He and his family enjoyed boating and spending time on the water together. Bill was a truck driver for many years. Bill loved his family, and he will be greatly missed.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Everett Earl and Gussie Loraine Matheny; daughters, Sonia Elaine Martin and Lisa Evans; sister, Mary Ann Matheny Knight; and brother, Donald C. Matheny.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of fifty-five years, Margaret Diane Matheny; brother Richard Lee Matheny of Mitchell, Indiana; sister Stella Frances Cox of Pickens, South Carolina; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. William's love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life, and his memory will forever be a source of love and inspiration for us all.
A private service will be held at a later date.
