William Shelby Jackson

William “Billy” Shelby Jackson age 89, of LaFayette, Georgia passed away Friday, December 20, 2024. He was born in Chickamauga, Georgia to the late Walter Lucius and Eva Lee Carter Jackson. He spent his childhood in LaFayette and was a former resident of Fort Oglethorpe, GA, and Chattanooga, TN, before moving back to LaFayette in 1993. Billy retired from Combustion Engineering in Chattanooga, after thirty-two years of employment as a welder. He was a current member of Woodstation Baptist Church in Catlett, Georgia where he taught Sunday School and enjoyed singing in the choir. Billy also was a former member of Morris Hills Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN, and Park City Baptist Church in Rossville, GA. Billy loved The Lord, loved serving The Lord and singing about The Lord. Many years ago he sang in a men’s quartet. He enjoyed farming, gardening and working on his old Ford tractor. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, a fan of the universities of Georgia and Tennessee. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter: Karen Juanell Jackson, granddaughter: Stacey Juanell Lusk, brothers: Walter Lee Jackson, Milton Jackson, Benny Jackson and Joseph Winston Jackson. He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years: Margaret Inez McKenzie Jackson of LaFayette, GA, daughter: Phyllis Elaine (Larry) Cagle of East Ridge, TN, Milton Keith Jackson of Fort Oglethorpe, GA, Gary Wayne (Teresa) Jackson of Ten Mile, TN, grandchildren: Crystal Ellington, Tommy Cagle, Hunter and Carter Jackson, great-grandchildren: Chyenne, Nathan, Katie, Brayden, Gracie, great-great-grandchild: Killian, several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Monday from 11:00 am until the service. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm – Monday – December 23, 2024 in the chapel with Pastors: Bill Stafford, III. and Damon Perry officiating.
