Starting May 1st, Georgia’s annual summer burn ban goes into effect in 54 counties across the state. That includes Walker, Catoosa and Chattooga counties. The ban will run through September 30th and aims to protect air quality and reduce the risk of wildfires. The restriction prohibits most outdoor burning, including yard and land-clearing debris, due to the negative impact on ozone levels, especially in urban areas. It’s also important to note that burning trash or waste is never allowed at any time. Georgia Forestry Commission Director Johnny Sabo has noted an increase in wildfires this spring and is urging residents to follow safety guidelines and stay aware of fire conditions.
