Walker County commissioners are expected to take a major step toward finalizing the county’s Fiscal Year 2027 budget tonight. The Board of Commissioners meets at 6:30 at the Walker County Courthouse Annex IV. Commissioners will consider resolutions adopting the county’s General Fund, Enterprise Funds and Special Revenue budgets for the new fiscal year. The board will also consider adopting the county’s millage rate for incorporated and unincorporated areas. The budget vote follows weeks of discussions and a special budget work session as commissioners worked to close a projected budget shortfall while maintaining county services.
Queen City Lake is once again open for all activities, including swimming at the beachfront area. The swimming area had been closed while officials monitored water conditions following concerns over elevated E. coli levels. Additional testing was conducted, and officials now say conditions have returned to normal. The City of LaFayette is thanking residents for their patience during the closure and is also recognizing the LaFayette High School Marine Biology Club for its role in monitoring lake conditions and helping keep the community informed.
Battlefield Parkway has reopened after a gas leak forced the busy roadway to close for several hours yesterday. The Catoosa County Fire Department says crews shut off the leaking gas line and cleared the scene. Surrounding restaurants were evacuated during the emergency. No immediate information was available on what caused the leak or whether anyone was injured.
The LaFayette Volleyball team is back home tonight. The Ramblers face Gilmer at 5pm followed by LFO at 7pm. The team picked up two wins this week defeating Model and Oakwood Christian on Tuesday.
