The future of a proposed gondola at Rock City could be decided later this month. The Lookout Mountain City Council will hold a special meeting September 21st to vote on amendments that would allow aerial passenger ropeways in the town’s tourism district. The Rock City proposal has divided the community for more than seven months, with concerns including traffic, development and the mountain’s character. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall. It’s open to the public, but is not a public hearing.
Peavine City Church Rossville will host a free dental clinic for uninsured adults next week. Dental services and cleanings will be offered September 14th through the 16th. Hours are 8 to 4 Monday and Tuesday, and 8 to 11 Wednesday. Appointments are first come, first served, and must be reserved by calling 423-255-8240. Registration begins today and ends Friday. The church is located at 100 Spring Street in Rossville.
The Armuchee Valley Community Center will host a community health fair Saturday, September 12th, from 9 to noon. The event will offer blood pressure checks and education, diabetes support, heart disease risk assessments, and personalized health education. The center is located on Georgia 136, outside LaFayette. A community yard sale will also be held Saturday from 7 to noon.
Walker County will hold a Patriot Day service Friday, marking the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and honoring local first responders. The service begins at 8:40 Friday morning in front of the Walker County Courthouse in LaFayette. Walker County Fire Rescue and the Sheriff’s Office will lead the ceremony, with local first responders and students from area JROTC and chorus programs participating. The public is invited. Limited seating will be available, and the ceremony concludes at 9:10.
