The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is set to begin resurfacing the right westbound lane of Interstate 24 near the Tennessee state line, starting Friday night, May 2—weather permitting.
Initial work will focus on installing warning signs for the upcoming construction zone. On May 2 and 3, the left lane and shoulder will be closed during overnight hours to accommodate this setup.
Beginning Sunday night, May 4, crews will shift to resurfacing the right westbound lane, working nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. As the work progresses westward from the state line near State Route 299, portions of the right lane will be closed.
Motorists should plan for delays and are urged to drive cautiously through the work zone. Reduced speeds and heightened awareness are strongly recommended for the safety of both drivers and road crews.
Travelers can stay informed about traffic conditions and project updates by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or using the Georgia 511 mobile app.
GDOT emphasized that all crews are following health guidelines to reduce the spread of COVID-19 while continuing essential roadwork.
