The Walker County Board of Commissioners will meet on Thursday at 6pm.  The meeting will happen at Courthouse Annex III on South Main Street in LaFayette.  Among the items on the agenda is a request from the Walker County Development Authority to rezone two parcels of land on Glass Road in LaFayette from agricultural to industrial.
There were four felony arrests on Friday in Walker County and just one on Saturday.  Those arrested on Friday include, Brandon Lee Dillard.  Dillard was charged with possession of meth and unlawful use of a blue light.  38-year-old John Robert Beach was booked on a charge of 1st degree cruelty to children.  41-year-old Justin Nance Bandy was charged with theft.  Saturday, Dontaris Demarrius Baker was booked on aggravated assault charge and terroristic threats.
In a development late last week, a Superior Court Judge has stayed the order disqualifying Daniel Blackman from the Democratic nomination for Public Service Commission District 3. This follows the earlier announcement that Blackman was disqualified from the June 17th Special Primary, with votes for him to be voided according to state law. The case remains pending as the election approaches.  Early voting is underway now for the state wide Public Service Commission election.
National Fishing and Boating Week returns this week. Residents and visitors can fish license-free on Saturday. Throughout the week, Georgia State Parks will host numerous family-friendly fishing events, offering opportunities for anglers of all experience levels. This initiative, part of the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation’s “Take Me Fishing” campaign, encourages everyone to enjoy the state’s exceptional outdoor resources.
