Active Weather Pattern Brings Multiple Days of Showers and Severe Storm Threats to the Southeast

SHARE NOW

An active weather pattern is set to impact the Southeast region this weekend and into next week, bringing several rounds of showers and thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted the potential for severe thunderstorms, with damaging winds expected to be the primary hazard, accompanied by the possibility of large hail. At this time, the risk of tornadoes remains low.

Slight Risk alerts (level 2 out of 5) have been issued for three consecutive days: Friday night in Northwest Georgia, across much of the state on Saturday, and in parts of southeastern Georgia on Sunday.

Forecasters note that the intensity of Friday night’s storms will depend heavily on developments occurring earlier Friday afternoon and evening to the west. Confidence is higher for severe weather across Georgia on Saturday, as a series of stalled frontal boundaries will maintain elevated chances for rain through at least midweek. Thunderstorms are expected daily, with severe activity most likely during afternoon and evening hours.

While widespread flooding is not anticipated, repeated rounds of heavy rainfall could lead to isolated flash flooding in some areas.

Officials advise residents to prepare for the potential of overnight severe weather Friday by ensuring multiple ways to receive weather alerts while sleeping. Staying informed through local National Weather Service updates and trusted media sources is strongly recommended.
