Severe storms on Saturday caused trees to fall and left several in Walker County without power.  At its peak there were 1,695 homes without power in Walker County.  Crews worked to restore power and by yesterday the power was back on across the county.
A Summerville resident has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Friday afternoon on Oak Street.  Around 12:30 p.m., police found 27-year-old Christopher “DJ” Chapman unresponsive with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.  Authorities identified 24-year-old Deoveon Price as the shooter. Price fled the scene but was apprehended shortly after driving a different vehicle on Taylors Ridge.  The shooting followed a physical altercation between the two men. Price faces charges including felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during a crime. The investigation is ongoing.
The assistant principal of Lafayette High School was released on bond last Wednesday following his arrest on multiple charges related to child pornography.  Ronnie Massey was taken into custody last Monday after the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at his residence in Ringgold. The investigation began after a cyber tip alerted authorities to the downloading of child sexual abuse material from a device traced to Massey.  The sheriff’s office discovered images of child pornography on the messaging app Kik. According to the arrest report, Massey admitted to receiving 12 videos through two Kik Messenger accounts.  Massey was booked on ten charges of computer pornography, each carrying a $10,000 bond.  He was released on bond on June 4.
