Walker County’s unemployment rate rose slightly in May, reaching 3.2%, according to new data released by the Georgia Department of Labor. That’s up from 2.8% in April, marking a modest increase in the number of jobless residents.
Neighboring counties also experienced similar trends. Catoosa County reported a 2.9% unemployment rate in May, compared to 2.6% in April. Dade County’s unemployment rose from 2.7% to 3.1% over the same period.
Across Northwest Georgia, the regional unemployment rate climbed to 3.3% in May, up from 2.9% in April.
Despite local increases, the statewide unemployment rate improved slightly, dropping from 3.6% in April to 3.5% in May.
While the rise in jobless numbers is modest, labor officials continue to monitor economic shifts that may be affecting employment trends across the region.
